The heat of the summer has seen the markets fall, leaving us all a bit worried about future economics. But don’t let the sag in the stock market keep you from making some of the best investments out there. End of Summer Sales pay great dividends with a little planning ahead. My father always told me that a sale didn’t save you any money if you did not need the item in the first place. These are wise words. This in mind, I am putting together a list for the holidays, up coming birthdays and a few special events that I know I will needing small gifts for and shopping the sales. If I know that I need a gift and I am able to buy it while it is on sale, that is a good investment. People look forward to my presents because they know they are going to receive polish pottery. I have gotten creative and give favorite recipes with bakers, gourmet mustard or chutneys with serving bowls, hot fudge with ice cream bowls, funky candles with platters, or flavored coffee with polish pottery mugs inorder to personalize the gift. So get your list together and watch your local paper and e-mails for sales alerts or surf the web to find great deals to fit your budget.
Reusing that broken pottery!
We adore out Polish pottery. We adore it so much that when we accidentally break a dish…we can’t throw the pieces away!! There are many creative uses for broken pottery and for this post we are going to focus on a bigger project! Before, we’ve written about creating mosaic stepping stones and jewelry. Today, we found a great project for a coffee table! Though this tutorial is using pennies for the top, this could easily be recreated using broken pottery pieces. And what a beautiful and colorful table that would make! This is sure to be a crafted item of great interest and a wonderful conversation piece.
You can find the directions on how to create this table by visiting Apartment Therapy’s DIY Penny Table article. Depending on the size of your table, this could take a lot of pottery to fill it up! Be sure not to throw away the dishes that you accidentally crack or break. If you end up with a lot of larger broken pieces, simple break them up into smaller ones by placing the pieces on your sidewalk or driveway, covering them with a towel, and gently tapping them with a hammer. Good luck!

Pottery Spotlight: Anastasia Pattern
One of our newest patterns, Anastasia, is a gorgeous design that we are so excited to stock in our shop!
The pattern has a lacy and elegant feel to it featuring blues, greens, and a bit of gold. The eye-catching floral design circles the pottery and is followed by a smaller floral stamp and a border of gold spheres.
The detail is easy to see in this mug! The smaller blue stamps are more of a sunburst shape versus being a regular circle or dot, giving the pottery a bit of character and a touch of individuality. Just like all of our other pottery, all these pieces are hand made a decorated. Each piece is a unique work of art and tradition. The Anastasia pattern lives up to it’s classy name and is a wonderful addition to any summer table.
Polish Pottery on a chain!
Dealing with broken Polish pottery? It’s heartbreaking to see your gorgeous casserole dish in pieces on the floor. Instead of sweeping up the mess and saying farewell as you dump it into the trash, there are many creative alternatives! We wrote a post in the past about turning those pieces into a beautiful mosaic stepping stone. Another way to reuse broken pottery is to turn it into unique jewelry pieces! Etsy shop owner Broken China Pieces did just that and created a lovely necklace featuring a flower design:
Other jewelry pieces that could be crafted include charm bracelets, earrings, barrettes and hair pieces, and even finger rings! Be sure to file down any sharp edges.
So do not fear too much when that detailed coffee mug slips from your hands onto the floor with a shatter. Reusing the broken pieces is sure to be a fulfilling experience and allow you to enjoy your Polish pottery beyond it’s intended use.
